Certainly, not everyone will welcome a reading, whether it means runes, Tarot or any other form of divinatory reading, though if you offered free readings on FB or other social media sites, you'd probably get the piranha treatment in no time, and experience a steep practice curve. Some would be generous with feedback and validation, informing your development, some would not. Or you could still practice, reading for yourself on questions of wider interest; the weather, Elections...there are many possibilities that would not trivialise your practice of rune divination, while keeping a journal would enable you to look back and track your learning.
Thank you for your input. I have done away with social media so that is not an option for me. I have kept a journal since I really began to study the runes, and it has been very handy. I think widening the scope of my questions is an idea I will consider.
lots of folk learn the runes in this way, but is it real? First what is divination? I can tell you what it is to me, but that will not help as this is about you and what your mind is telling you. Now readings are you inputting your ideas into play in another persons life, influencing their decision making.. How comfortable are you about the results of your advice? If you lead me to destruction you will not be able to blame the runes, because you are taking responsibility in that you are the reader. Runes are not script like reading a book they are symbols and apply in the abstract a reader is like an art critic who sees into the painting a meaning. But like all art runes are subjective and express with nuance a verity of shades and structural variance based on the the subject, the questions and the needs of the client as well as the mood and clarity, honesty and integrity of the reader.
IMHO you should work the runes on your self and even on the runes them selves, try understanding an on going news story or something of that sort until you have a good understanding of your self . Also there are some folk that should not be read for these are folk with mental disorders you can hurt a person like this or even get them killed. That said don't be afraid of the runes they are not the problem it is us who must be attentive of our own motives and actions as the true power of the runes is in you not them, they are symbols only it is their effect in you that give rise to power.
I think knowing the meanings and feeling their power and principles is the best way. Check out the .com side of this site but also check out The Book of Rune Secrets as the main contemporary overview of rune meaning.
There is an exercise in alchemy at the back of the aforementioned book that is not divination but an involved mental practice that although a commitment, is the best device I've used to strengthen one's association with the runes and one's own cosmological makeup.
I would agree with Tyriel on the His book is one of a very rear breed as he uses an alchemical process that takes the reader inward and explores the nature of the hidden self. Rather then quoting Jung Tyriel employs a Jung like approach that not only teaches rune meaning, but takes it a step further by demonstrating a highly personal application that is in keeping with everyday life. Although I like Tyriel as a person I am not just blowing smoke up the old proverbial hole. I was fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to read a first draft of the Book and it has been influencing my understanding of runes to this day. Allowing me to truly see Rune through the window of my own everyday life. Before having found his mind in the pages of his book I saw the runes in a kind of external mindset, but now I see them as an inward reflection. Seeing into my own general BS and finding clarity were the was only confusion.
