This is so wonderful, I love all the shared knowledge. For me, I made a bag from an old cloth my grandmother gave to me, which is where I keep my runes. It seems they speak to me in the way they choose. I will just start talking about what happened the day before (to apply the knowledge of the runes from the day before to what occurred in my daily life), or start singing or humming (or I am silent); and as I am doing so, I run my hands through the runes. The ones that I end up reading, kind of crawl into my fingers, or the center of my palm, or there is a feeling I get when one just rests by my hand. Sometimes, it's hard to even have one rune speak to me. But other times, I have many of them that I end up reading.
Just pull them out of a bag one by one or how they come out. As many as seems right. No layout but I move them around until they make sense. The movement often ends up in a pattern with maybe a central rune or lines. Kinda interesting.
Hope you don't think I am stalking you LOL I just wanted to add a bit in here as it has been a few years for me as well :) One Thing folks try to get when dealing in divination is a true or as true approximation to randomness as possible. Now I read that Copperfield and a Math major had done research on this idea using cards and they found that it takes at least nine full shuffles to get to a random deal of the cards. And in many years of playing Rummy if the cards are not going your way shuffle three times and the trend will revers. Now that is one way folk think about Divination there is another idea out there and this is the idea that if you use the same medium all the time you will gain a tactile familiarity and thus over time your draw will be intentional and yet can still be hidden from the conscious mind. This can be good as it can offer a window into the hidden mind. However when reading for others this can be a handicap as you are now telling them what to do based on your own mind and not theirs. In this case it is not the rune that is the problem it is that the reader will have an overly powerful intuition that it is right for you and thus the rune ideology now by the nature of the intensity of the reader becomes forced. I hate to bring ethics in to this but it is true that the reader has an obligation to do right by them. If your intent is to take advantage of folk then I am sorry but you are not just evil, but you deceive yourself for we are all born naked and we all equally die. One path leads to life the other to death and the path to death should make us all attentive to the part we play in the world we are making.
