"I prefer to use wood, since I go with what Tacitus said of it. I use wood from a nut-bearing or fruit-bearing tree. The first set I made in 1999 out of Red Oak I obtained from a hardware store. Recently, I made a set out of Apple wood and another…"

DesertRaven commented on shana's blog post Recently feeling very enraged for no reason, drew Thurisaz- relief ensued.

DesertRaven commented on Maagda Thorenson's blog post A rock I found with Gebo etched into it by nature !
"That's a very powerful stone. It appears to be a type of quartz. The roundness would come from being smoothed by water. At some point in time, it was probably being rolled along a river or creek. Lines in stones are often etched by ice."

How To: Red Oak Runes

I posted earlier about making a set of applewood Runes from barbeque smoker wood. But it involves hogging out planks from the rough log splits. But there is an easier method if one wishes to make a quality set of wood Runes. What you will need is a 1/4" thick, 1-1/2"x4' section of red oak craft wood. This is commonly sold at places like Lowe's and Home Depot. The section costs about $4.00. There are other woods available, but the red oak looks best and falls under Tacitus' description of wood…See More

Runes From BBQ Smoker Wood

Many people prefer to make their own Runes. Anyone can go down to the lumber store and get finished wood and have a set of Runes is fairly short order. But some would like to make a set of Runes from an actual branch, yet wood such as this can be hard to come by. Especially so if one wishes to follow the historical accounts from Tacitus that state Runes were made from a "nut or fruit bearing tree". The prime candidates for such wood would be oak (acorns) and apple wood. These are two woods that…See More
