"Tyriel, good points about Blum's book; some things may not be apparent, but when we dig a bit deeper it becomes more evident."

"I adore the second set, it's quite original, and there is something about it that reminds me of the games of mahjong I used to play with my father and family as a child. Thanks for sharing this Rodney! :)"

"Thank you , Liselotte. The leather runes feel great in the hand, as they are slightly larger than my other rune set. And I just love the feel of natural leather. If I remember rightly, it took me over 40 hours to complete the set and box they fit…"

Two Rune sets that I have created.....

I have attached two files of rune sets that I made about ten years ago. The first one, the set of "Beech Runes and Leather Bag" is the main set that I use everyday. The beech stem came from my property in North Carolina. The stem was about 5/8" diameter and I asked the spirits of the tree for its use in my rune set. I hand-carved the Elder Futhark, one on each stav, with my chip-carving knife, then I painted them with a water-based paint. Then I made a leather bag from pigskin lining (I used…See More

Bio
Retired from US Forest Service. I am of Norse decent (Swedish). Original family surname was Magnusson until great-great-grandfather changed it to Kindlund. I have been studying the runes since I graduated High School in 1968 when I saw the runes in a library book. My rune study has been off-and-on during the last thirty years and I want to get back to studying the runes more seriously to get back in touch with my ancestors' culture. I also hand-work leather, wood, and hand-make knives. I want to see the runes continue as a living medium for the Norse culture to make available to the world.
When did you begin using the runes?
Off and on since 1968
What rune(s) are you most concerned with?
All of them and how they can relate to living on Earth in harmony.
Who are your favorite authors on the runes?
Edred Thorsson, Diana Paxson

Lessons of Hagalaz: Rune of Disaster and Healing

In the face of disaster, compassionate human beings discover that they do not break, but become stronger. We discover that our communities come together, even on a global scale, in face of unimaginable destruction. When the universe shows its inimical side, the side that couldn't care less about average human affairs, it's as if we come together to show overwhelmingly that we care for one another. When the universe demonstrates that it cannot be depended upon, that it is more than able to wreck havoc, we react by showing that we can depend upon one another.
