Were are we going.....and how can we get there?
The great god Odin rides on the back of the old nightmare, Sleipnir. Its eight legs, like the points on the compass, mark the eight-fold Wiccan year. The clock of time marches on to an unknown moment in the mind of the Gods.
Jesus’ death becomes the bridge between God and humanity. This is that Word, that was in the Beginning. That first articulation of conscious reflection is the Word of intercession, that is, Communion.
Odin and Jesus are the references in the details of this story, because the story is the same for both of them. While Odin is dying on the “Tree for Which No Man Knows the Name”, he reaches into the roots of that gnarled bloody tree for the answer of his age. It is there on his cross, like the cross of Christs’ tribulation, that Odin finds the Runes (letters) of communion, the letters that make up the same Word that gives humanity intersession. In the Semitic story of Christan contemplation we read that the “cross of Christ is that accursed tree, and cursed is he who hangs thereon”. In Odin‘s story we see the trees’ other side.
It is Yggdrasil the Yule tree. Intuitively we know this tree. This is the tree of our ancestry, this is the tree of our genesis, it is the knowledge of all our universal experience. It is the sum of who we are, both good and evil, and it is the tree of that knowledge. It is that old serpents’ tree, carved over time into the Cross on which the whole of an age hangs. It is here on the tree of Yggdrasil, the cross of Christ, that we all hang in the balance. We are all in this one body of humanity and the whole of this body wars in confusion and fear.
To overcome our animal nature and choose a more divine way of life is the challenge of this Zodiacal house; that is, Pisces. This says to me that this is not just something mystical but a tangible idea that lives here in the now. My worship must be in the doing; it is the perfecting of this house (my inner self).
The Cross is Yggdrasil, spawn of Loki (the serpent) and plays a key role to our ascent to Aquarius from Pisces if we overcome our challenges (Baldurs’ return). This is why we hang the mistletoe on the arch of the door way.The mistletoe marks the gateway into the house of Aquarius. This is why we kiss when we stand under it and why Vikings will not fight in its presence. That kiss under the mistletoe is the kiss of peace it says that my love of self is extended to my fellow human being; this is the bridge of intersession between life and death.
