Okay, so I am transgender. I have been studying Wicca for around 8 months, before that I studied other paths of Paganism. So, transgender moon!
That is one facet of Wicca I never really grasped. Wicca worships the Goddess, but also the God. No room for anything in between. In Wicca, transgender souls are viewed as the gender with which they identify. For instance, I, as a trans man, represent masculine energies, and only masculine energies, according to Wicca.
However! When it comes to nonbinary and intersex, agender, bigender, gender fluid, etc... Ying and Yang. You cannot have feminine without masculine, as they are part of eachother.
So, everything and everyone is a blend of male and female. It just depends on the percentages of each. Bigender people would be 50% of each. As such, so would the moon.
Wicca sees the moon as feminine mostly because
1. Monthy female cycles are affected by full moon
2. Full moons shape represents the chalice, couldren, feminine womb, etc.
OKAY! So... notice this is all the FULL moon?
Different stages of the moon, in Wicca, therefore can represent different percentages of femininity. For instance, the full moon is 100%.
Thus, full moon= 100%, which is really 100% of the feminine energy.
A new moon, at 0% fullness, is masculine.
A new moon is masculine in Wicca. 0% of femininity, must equal 100% of masculiniy.
What I do... not traditional, but my way of worship.. As a gender nonconforming trans man, I have 3 candles on my altar. They are the 1. Gods 2. Goddesses and 3. Universe/Intersex Entity
I view the concept of "universe" as an intersex, nonbinary entity. Afterall, to have a genderless or all-gender person on earth, there must be one in the stars, right?
Basically, different stages of the moon can be different levels of gender. It all depends on how you interpret it ;)
The main issue is that I may be interpreting personal correspondances. These may not match up the same for everyone as everyone perceives the meaning slightly differently. That's why I've got the big blog post up - to see if people agree. So far I've got The Devil and Uruz and now Rebirth and Daeg (with some contributing energies from Kenaz). To me, the Devil and Uruz is a no brainer - they're both centralized around untamed energy. Rebirth and the SHAPE of Kenaz seems to match up as Kenaz could be seen as looking somewhat like a woman's birthing parts, or opposite to a phallic shape. The meaning of Kenaz doesn't seem as on the mark as Daeg's meaning.
I've been trying to establish the trump cards of the tarot to the runes like we talked about and I'm not sure it can be done. It's sort of like the runes address another avenue of trumps. I'm at the point of drawing out all the trumps from the deck and asking for each one, "Which rune matches this card's meaning?" Or, perhaps with the pendulum, spreading them all out and then asking one at a time, "does this card's meaning align with this rune?" etc.
I think I stumbled upon the old concept of 'mother earth' in the Norse-Germanic mythology!!! Jörð is the jötunn mother of Thorr, 'Friend of man' & 'Defender of Midgard', and Meili, who is theorized to be the same god as Baldr, her name is the Icelandic word for earth. I'd never heard of her before last night! Sorry, this is exciting for me. ^_^
Thought I should let you know!
As it pertains to the runes I thought it was interesting that her name begins with 'year' and ends with 'day' - while her sons are normally associated with Thurisaz, Thorr, and Algiz, Baldr.
This is a very interesting look into language. The basic idea is that Hebrew and other early writing forms arose out of gesturing with the hand. The hand is the medium by which we as humans manifest creative works. Our hand are the tools of creation. Blind people have been shown to use the same gestures as sighted people when speaking even when the person had been blind from birth. This would suggest that gesturing is instinctive to communication.
The name could represent many things, perhaps none of them wrong. It was written on a leaf and at the time, I interpreted it as the name given to my Higher self, so I use it here on Rune Secrets to remind me of that path :)
Re: Combining Zen and Asatru or Zen and Rune-Work...
Very interesting and I should like to follow your ideas on the subject. Perhaps you could blog about it here! You're most welcome to do so.
I've always thought Zen is an excellent companion to rune magic, because on the one hand, rune work could be compared to the active imagination techniques of Jung that he felt most Westerners were in dire need of. On the other hand, Zen is so adept at pulling us into the stillness of the present moment, and emptying our mind of thoughts and ideas.
I used to get overloaded by my mind -- but to do something like write a book and edit it to be comprehensible, that requires patience, discipline and a kind of 'carry water, chop wood' attitude much of the time. Zen has lots to offer, if adapted for westerners.
"Psychology and the East" by Jung was indispensable to my understanding of the rift between western spirituality and eastern. Have you read it?
