Mediation on Rune-names

Keep in mind: What I pronounced as IWAZ can also be EIWAZ. This I vs. EI alternation is also present in TEIWAZ, which can be TIWAZ. I do not know if anyone knows the true nature of the vowel of these two Runes.

The most important thing, though, is to watch out for confusing IWAZ/EIWAZ (yew tree) with with EHWAZ (horse). The crucial difference is the W-sound vs. the HW-sound. The vocal cords vibrate for W, but not for HW, which otherwise is pronounced identically. To make the HW sound, then, just move the mouth (and lips, and whatnot) in the same exact way as you would for W, but make an H sound as you do so.

To get a feel for what it means for the vocal cords to vibrate vs. not vibrate, just blow out air as an H sound. That is the vocal cords NOT vibrating. Then, to contrast, make a nice and loud AHHHH!!!! sound. That is the vocal cords VIBRATING.

Another example: for the th in "then" the vocal cords vibrate (which would be the D sound in one way to pronounce DAGAZ); but for the th in "thin" the vocal cords do NOT vibrate (this is the TH sound in THURISAZ).

Thank you for providing a great learning tool here. In hearing the pronunciation and seeing the Rune that it is associated with I get an arising sense of joy that I am coming back home to a knowledge I once had known.
